Dave Riley and his Green Beret A-Team must defeat a threat shockingly inhuman. Set in the shadowy world of genetic research, Synbat, stands for Synthetic Battle form.
The research is conducted at a lab in the deep woods of western Tennessee, under the Pentagon's secret Black Budget, is Top Secret. Until the subjects of the experiment escape. The Synbats are now roaming the countryside, acting out what they were designed to do kill.
Riley and his team are called in for 'damage control.' Easier said than done. They follow the deadly trail to Chicago, where long abandoned tunnels are a lair for the Synbats to complete what could well spell the end of mankind procreate at incredible speed. It's a race against time as Riley must destroy mankind's greatest threat-- our own genes spliced with that of another species.
Kirkus Reviews. “Action packed entertainment. An atavistic milieu plausibly conjured up by Mayer.”
Publishers Weekly. “Mayer keeps story and characters firmly under control. The venal motives of the scientists and military bureaucracy are tellingly contrasted with the idealism of the soldiers—a treat for military fiction readers.”
Library Journal “This book will appeal to a variety of horror and military fiction readers. Recommended.”

I know I'm unusual as I'm a woman of 61 years who enjoys Action, Adventure, creature books. It was raising our son who hooked me first on these types of movies then books. The plot moves at a snails pace. It was more a how to on what weapons, people required for the job, & the intelligence from the people who needed your help namely the government. I believe the scenario I think there are a lot of projects being done without the public's knowledge & if it comes to defending our Country then I can see why secrecy would be required. However almost the whole book is this. You couldn't feel a kinship with the hero simply because being a woman I don't understand how men can follow orders without information nor after some of your team are killed still soldier on with a bit more information but again not enough to really help your mission. I guess this is why women aren't in many combat units cause they aren't this gung ho to be accepted my the military to just march into Hell thinking it's for a Heavenly cause!
At almost the last 5 chapters our hero meets a woman cop & then the book gets interesting. Her years being a cop & his years being in the service worked well together. I sure wish she could have come in much earlier in the book! I thoroughly enjoyed the rest of the book after her entering into the fight. Hope the author will add her to the next book about this man together they make a good team & are fun to read about.
There were a few typos, some small words left out like the or a but overall the book was better than most E books I read.

Synbat The Green Berets Book 3 edition by Bob Mayer Mystery Thriller Suspense eBooks Reviews
This was a pretty good book. The action flowed well, the characters were developed adequately and the logic was right. It was worth an afternoon's reading and if you enjoy military fiction I think you might like this book.
That was the good stuff. I read the kindle version and none of this might apply to the printed version but caveat emptor. There were misspellings in places such that meaning had to be taken from context. A word or two was left out completely. The word if was used in place of it in a number of places. Not terrible errors but enough to be annoying.
What really annoyed me though was that late in the book a small section was repeated word for word. The section was simply repeated immediately. It bespeaks a certain carelessness on the part of the author or (I think non-existent) editor. And one name kept changing between two spellings.
It seemed to me that the author had good writing, spelling and grammar skills and casually read over what he had written perhaps once and let it go at that. The book would have been better for good editing. I might have been upset if the book had not been free.

Mankind has been tinkering with mother nature again, but this time she almost destroys them for their crimes! A lab in the rolling hills of Tennessee has managed to create the perfect killing species and it has turned on its creators.
While Mayer writes a fictional account with Synbat, unfortunately his fictional story is all to possible with the latest advances in gene manipulation and splicing. The action is non-stop and absolutely riveting in holding your attention. When I started it last night I didn't put it down till early this morning when I finished!
I happily award Synbat 5 Stars!!!
In the course of a prison escape, 3 convicts stumble upon a top secret government Biotech Engineering Project. A series of errors compounded by an undereducated guard, cause Synbats (Synthetic Battle Forms) to be released into the world. It's interesting that the guard was the weakest link in the security chain; a comment perhaps on shortsighted officials who spend millions or billions on technology, but attempt to cut costs by hiring incompetent and uninformed personnel to watch over everything.
Riley and his crew are called upon to clean up the mess, but problems ensue because the higher ups not only withhold information, but deliberately mislead them as to the capabilities of the Synbats. (This seems to be a theme of all the Green Berets books, probably reflecting the author’s real life Special Force experiences. One of the characters says, “I’ve worked in the military long enough and been on enough classified missions to know that many times the desire for security overrides common sense.â€)
The Synbats were designed and trained to be combat soldiers. They are very intelligent, very strong, very deadly and very fecund. This last part is the biggest problem as they must be contained before they reproduce.
No spoilers, but I must say that one of my favorite moments in the book occurs at the very end with an unlikely and unsung hero.
A new character, Chicago Detective Donna Giannini is introduced and seems to share a connection with Riley. I hope see her return in future books.
This is definitely my favorite book in series so far.
