Jean Brashear does have an excellent style of writing that pull you in and you love every minute you're reading. I know I did. I fell in love with Sweetgrass Springs and the people in it.Scarlett's mother had died, and the only family Scarlet had, that she knew of, until going through her mother's things, found she had a Grandmother in Sweetgrass Springs, After Scarlet was threatened during the night, while sleeping, with a knife at her throat, by mafia thugs warning her not to testify, she packed what she could, and with a box of momentos of her mother, she headed to Sweetgrass Springs, in Texas. Scarlet was hoping to find her Grandmother, and find safety in distance until needed to testify.
How the author unfolds the story of Scarlet and Sweetgrass Spring is very pleasant, that I wished I was part of the town and had a home in such a beautiful area. The people in this story are hearty, strong spirited and caring. I loved Ruby, the Grandmother, who runs a restaurant at 71 years of age, and how she just opens her heart and home to those that need a place. Really, I can't describe the story good enough to do it justice. This is well worth reading, that you'll fall in love with Sweetgrass Springs and it's legend, and all the characters and wish you were there too.

Ms Brashear has created a winning new series. This is Book #1 in the series and it's well done. The characters grab you and pull you into their lives. The story line is well developed and the editing is well done.
This story line is around one of the 4 Horsemen of Sweetgrass Springs, Tx...4 boys who were hell-raisers in high school, as well as athletic heroes. This book concerns Ian McLaren who stayed in Sweetgrass Springs after college to work his family ranch.
I have also purchased and just finished Book #2 in the series, and it's as well done. I'm awaiting Book #3 which is to come in October, according to the info here at .
Well done, Ms Brashear! You have me looking for your other books and getting them for more enjoyable hours of reading.
I absolutely loved the playfulness of the main characters. The support characters were just as funny. Just thinking about my Granny having a lover at her age trips me out. But you go girl, that man really loved her. I love how the showing of a building and lasting love played out in this book. Scarlet although running from her past to a future that hold every thing she will ever need. Bad guys don't stand a chance with a town like sweetgrass. I like it so much i purchased the one with Jackson coming home, reading that one now. The vision they have of the lady kinda puzzles me, but I am sure it will become clear in the books to follow.
Scarlett thought she was alone with no family left after her mother died. While going through her mother's papers she found she had a grandmother in Texas. She needed a place to hide out until it was time to testify against men who used her restaurant to hide their bad actions.
I absolutely loved this story. When she meets her grandmother had me crying for joy. I got a kick out of her meeting Ian for the first time. (Why can't all men be Texas men? The world would be a much better place. Sigh)
Eric G. Dove does a great job of narrating.
As usual, another wonderful book by Jean Brashears.
Kudos to the author for completing this book. As the book slogged through numerous sex scenes I persevered, hoping against hope to find something that would redeem this book. No, the simplicity of plot continued and finally exploded in total ridiculousness when FOREIGN AGENTS were finally captured. Such lame plotting and generally lazy writing. How much talent does it take to write sex scenes? Not much.

All three books are part of the families of the Sweetgrass Springs Series and Morning Star Series.
Texas Roots offers everything but the kitchen sink. Brashear has crafted a ghostly tale of love lost and hopes revisited. Scarlett and Ian are a bit players in a tale as intriguing as the shadows that haunt the legendary fabled spring that serves as a backdrop for this small town. Scarlett is on the run from demons in her past. Her getaway provides her the chance to get answers to some long overdue questions about herself and the family she never knew existed. Ian is her chance at salvation. He rescues her from a life full of loneliness and she shows him the meaning of true love. With the forces determined to tear them apart, can they break the curse of the woman with a broken heart and find their own chance at forever? As always Brashear and Dove make a great team when it comes to captivating romance.
Loved Ian and Scarlett. Both were able to free themselves of issues from their past. Ruby was able to get a little closure and the love of a granddaughter. Both Ruby and Scarlett had sassy characters that were fun to read about.
Great beginning to the Series. A quick, engaging read for of love, romance, loyalty to family and friends, and a strong sense of community. The chemistry between Ian and Scarlett didn't hurt either.

Once again, Eric Dove brought life to an already excellent story. It gave an enhanced feeling to the characters and the overall feel of the story.
